Deposit accounts are FDIC insured up to $250,000 per depositor.
Deposit Accounts Congress has passed legislation to increase FDIC coverage temporarily from $100,000 to $250,000 through December 31, 2013 for depositors of all banks that are members of the FDIC. Examples: • Single accounts = insured up to $250,000 • Joint accounts (equal ownership) = insured up to $250,000 for each owner • IRA deposits = insured up to $250,000 per plan depositor • Accounts that are registered in a Living Trust = insured up to $250,000 per owner, per beneficiary.
Beginning January 1, 2010 Westamerica Bank will no longer participate in the FDIC's Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Thus, after December 31, 2009, funds held in noninterest-bearing transaction accounts will no longer be guaranteed in full under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program, but will be insured up to $250,000 under the FDIC's general deposit insurance rules.
